Muscle-Relaxing Treatments in Stockholm
A thoughtful result begins with assessment—not an injection. At Gloss & Floss in Södermalm, treatment is planned individually by a licensed healthcare professional, with careful attention to facial movement, balance and your own preferences.
This page provides general information about consultation-led, prescription-only injection treatment. Suitability, treatment area, dose, alternatives and expected outcome can only be decided after an individual medical assessment.
What is a muscle-relaxing treatment?
A small amount of prescription-only medicine is placed into selected muscles to temporarily reduce their activity. In aesthetic care, this can soften dynamic lines—the lines that appear when you frown, raise your eyebrows or smile—without changing the underlying structure of the face.
The goal is not to remove every line or stop all expression. A conservative plan considers how your muscles work together, which movements matter to you and how much change is appropriate. The effect is temporary and varies between people, treatment areas and sessions.
- Planning
- Individual assessment and documented treatment plan
- Procedure
- Usually a short appointment with minimal interruption to the day
- Effect
- Develops gradually and remains temporary
What may be discussed at consultation?
Aesthetic concerns
Patients commonly ask about expression lines in areas such as the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Your clinician assesses facial movement at rest and during expression before discussing whether treatment is suitable. The plan should support a rested, balanced appearance rather than a standardised or “frozen” look.
Jaw-muscle activity and clenching
Jaw tension, tooth grinding and morning discomfort can have several causes. Because muscle activity is only one part of the picture, the teeth, bite, jaw joints, sleep and symptoms may need assessment before any option is discussed. Read our patient guides on bruxism and night guards.
Excessive sweating
Persistent excessive sweating can affect daily comfort and confidence. Some injection treatments can reduce sweat-gland activity in selected areas, but the cause of sweating, the area involved, previous treatment and your medical history must be reviewed first. Outcomes and duration vary; an individual assessment determines whether treatment at our clinic is appropriate or whether another healthcare pathway would be better.
Is this treatment suitable for you?
Suitability is based on your goals, anatomy, muscle pattern and health—not age alone. During consultation, tell us about all medicines and supplements, previous injection treatments, allergies, ongoing dental or medical care and any earlier unexpected reaction.
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided in situations such as:
- pregnancy or breastfeeding;
- infection, inflammation or broken skin near the planned area;
- certain neuromuscular conditions;
- medicines or health conditions that may affect safety or healing; or
- expectations that cannot be met responsibly with this treatment.
Your clinician makes the final assessment using the current product information and your individual circumstances. If treatment is not the right option, you should receive a clear explanation and, where relevant, an alternative plan.
Your treatment journey
- Consultation and health historyWe listen to what you would like to change, assess the relevant area and review your health, medicines and previous treatments.
- Clinical recommendationYour clinician explains whether treatment is appropriate, what a realistic result may look like, available alternatives, risks, aftercare and the total cost.
- Information, reflection and consentFor first-time aesthetic treatment, the required two-day reflection period gives you time to consider the information. Consent is documented before treatment and may be withdrawn at any time.
- Careful treatmentThe area is cleaned and planned injection points are marked. A fine needle is used to treat selected muscles. The appointment is usually brief, although time varies with the treatment plan.
- Aftercare and follow-upYou receive individual instructions and contact details. A follow-up may be recommended to assess the result once the effect has developed; additional treatment is not automatic.
Results, duration and a natural expression
The effect does not appear immediately. It usually begins to develop over the following days and can continue changing for around one to two weeks. For many aesthetic treatment areas, the effect lasts several months before muscle activity gradually returns. Timing differs between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.
A natural result depends on appropriate patient selection, anatomical assessment, dose and placement. More treatment is not necessarily better. We favour a measured plan that can be reviewed over time and adapted to your facial movement and preferences.
Side effects, risks and aftercare
All injection treatments involve potential side effects. Short-lived redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising at the injection sites can occur. Headache may also occur. Depending on the area treated, less common effects can include temporary asymmetry, unwanted weakness or changes around the eyelid or eyebrow.
Your consultation covers risks that are relevant to the planned area and medicine. Follow the written aftercare instructions you receive. In general, avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area and postpone strenuous exercise for the period your clinician recommends.
Contact the clinic if you develop an unexpected or concerning symptom. Seek urgent medical care for breathing or swallowing difficulty, marked weakness, or another severe reaction. This information is not a substitute for the product-specific advice and emergency instructions provided to you.

Frequently asked questions
Are muscle-relaxing treatments safe?
They are established prescription-only treatments, but no injection is risk-free. Safety depends on correct patient selection, a licensed clinician, appropriate dosing and placement, and clear follow-up. Your individual benefits and risks are reviewed before consent.
Can I receive treatment at my first consultation?
Not if it is your first aesthetic injection treatment. Swedish rules require a reflection period of at least two days after you receive the required information. Treatment can be planned after that period if you remain comfortable proceeding and the clinician confirms suitability.
How long does the effect last?
The effect is temporary and commonly lasts several months in aesthetic treatment areas. Duration varies with the area, dose, muscle activity and individual response, so an exact time cannot be guaranteed.
When will I see a result?
Changes usually begin gradually over the days after treatment and may continue developing for around one to two weeks. Your clinician will tell you when a review is meaningful for your treatment area.
Will my face look frozen?
That is not the aim. A conservative plan is designed to soften selected muscle activity while retaining expression. The possible degree of movement and change is discussed before treatment, and results vary.
Does the treatment hurt?
Most people experience brief pinprick sensations. Comfort measures can be discussed for sensitive areas. Tenderness or bruising can occur afterwards.
Can I return to work the same day?
Many people return to normal, non-strenuous activities the same day. Follow your individual aftercare instructions and avoid rubbing the area or exercising heavily for the period advised by your clinician.
Can this treatment help with teeth grinding or jaw tension?
It may be considered in selected cases, but grinding and jaw pain can have several causes. A dental and jaw assessment may be needed first, and options such as monitoring, a night guard, behavioural measures or referral may be more appropriate.
Can muscle-relaxing treatment reduce excessive sweating?
Selected injection treatments can reduce sweat-gland activity in some treatment areas. Suitability depends on the cause and location of sweating, your health and previous care. The likely benefit, limitations and duration are individual.
Who should not have an aesthetic injection treatment?
Aesthetic injection treatment is not offered to anyone under 18. It may also be unsuitable or need postponement during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with infection near the area, certain neuromuscular conditions, relevant medicines or other clinical risk factors. The clinician decides after assessment.
